While colleague Nancy cavorts around Oregon, let me take you all back to the East Coast for a moment. During a recent trip we had dinner with a cousin on the South Shore of Long Island. He, wife and remaining son at home have a lovely home on a "creek" off the Great South Bay with sumptuous gardens, pool, gazebo, boat, et al. On arrival he served as an aperitif a 1990 Joseph Drouhin, Nuits Saint Georges. He had had the forsight to buy a case on release, and it had matured majestically. He served it in 6 oz doses in 12 oz globular Burgundian glasses with wide open mouths. We sipped the wine while being led through the gardens in the cool evening of a perfect day. The wine was wonderful. Lovely fruit still present, but other components had developed into a rich complexity. Can't discribe all sensual nuances because they were mixed with the garden scents. Take my word for it, it was a delightful wine. One of the best vinaceous experiances in a long time. More about the dinner later.
