I'm hosting a little get-together with braised lamb chops and couscous (spelling?). Anyone have a good wine recommendation? I've got the usual culprits in my cellar but would love ideas on different wineries to explore.

Thanks!

Well, the classic match is a Bordeaux. In fact, the flag of Pauillac has a sheep on it. Nevertheless, there are many other matches that would go very nicely, as long as they're dry red wines. They would be Syrah based wines, Pinot Noirs (particularly from Burgundy), just about any CA Cab or Merlot, Riojas or Northern Italians.

Syrah, Shiraz, Sirah: take your pick!!!

I agree with the above two posts but jsut to prop up my fav. For a rustic braised lamb, I would go with a nice burgundy. I just had a few new 2005 Bourgogne level Burgs (MeoCamuzet and Chevillon) and both were a bit ripe and fruitier so that would also be a mid point between a typical Burgundy and a Syrah.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Had the dinner last weekend and ended up serving a nice Syrah from Marin County, CA.

I hadn't thought of a Bordeaux, so it will be on my list for next time around.

I was just about to ask the same exact question. I'm making a lamb dish this weekend for some friends. Thanks for recommendations everyone!
