This one was made by Joseph Davis, Morgon Winery's former winemaker. I believe it's his first effort....and a nice one at that! 1997 Arcadian Pinot Noir, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard; Monterey (CA, US) - $24.00 Pretty, soft, magenta color with excellent limpidity and clarity and a medium body. Nose of pretty strawberry and cherry with underlying tones of leather and tea. On the palate, very approachable, somewhat smooth and pleasing fruit with a very good structure. May develop further with some age, maybe 3 to 5 years at most but why wait? It's delicious and for $24, enjoyable although pushing the envelope just a bit. Would I buy more? I'd think about it and would not rule it out. According to the literature, the wine is made in traditional Burgundian methods, cold soaked and aged for 13 month in french oak, unfiltered and unfined. I can't say that I could detect oak in the wine as I nosed it and drank it. The grape is a combination of Pinot Droid and Martini. Delicious stuff!
