Brian Loring was kind enough to contact me and actually send me two bottles of his wines - the 2000 Gary's Vineyard and the 2000 Clos Pepe - as well as a bottle of Merry Edwards' Klopp Ranch. They were, as many of you said, stunning. They were warm, complex, artful, gracious, and warmly appealing in a way the Oregons seldom have seemed to me and the Burgundians, almost never. While I still probably won't abandon my Cab and Barolo, I can clearly see the appeal of these wines and can certainly talk them and sell them far better than I could two weeks ago. For that, I thank Brian Loring publicly. That said, my fiancee has now tried her first Pinots and is totally in Love with them. ARRRRRGH! I'm gonna be up to my neck in Pinot FOREVER! Brian, what have you done to me????!!!!!???

Had a feeling Brian's wines would grab you.

How was the Crow prepared that you paired with the wines? Recipie?

I hope to be tasting some Merry Edwards Pinots next week at the Triangle Wine Experience (along with Ponzi Pinots from Oregon and other California entries).

Had those two Lorings for Thanksgiving (brine cooked turkey, et al), and Christmas (goose, et al); in that order. Like I said before, sensational.

I personally do not like the style of Loring wines. I like a more delicate Pinot. That said, I rated the wines pretty high -- you can't let personal preferences dictate scores. Many people clamor for this style of Pinot, and if so, Brian has clearly delivered the goods for that market.
