Saw Loring Oregon in a wine store for $20 yesterday... Anyone had this?

If it's the Shea Vineyard, then we have it in the cellar, but we haven't tried it yet. If it's just an "Oregon" designation, I've yet to see it. But, it's a Loring. I mean, how bad could it be? My guess is it's probably better than a boatload of other $20 Pinots (which, incidentally, seem to be a dying breed).

Oh, and just for the info, if someone was driving through St. Louis on their way to, say, a Saline County farm, and they wanted to pick up some wine for their stay, where would you suggest they go shopping?

Not sure where Saline County is exactly, but if you have to go anywhere near Springfield then you have to stop at the Brown Derby International Wine Center. They've been around since 1937, so they're not novices.

I think I'll give it a try. I don't believe there was a vineyard designation.
2 best options for wine in St Louis are The Wine Merchant and Lukas Liquor. Both have websites.
The "Merch" is in Clayton near Hanley and 170.
Lukas Liquor is out West a bit at Clarkson and Manchester... Let me know if you need directions.
Also, let me know when you're coming and you and Anne would be welcome to stop by our place for a gluten-free dinner and wine if you're not allergic to naughty dogs and/or (late) twenty-somethings.

KC -- Thanks for the Springfield rec!

VH -- We appreciate the recs, and we'd love to get together! We'll let you know when we're traveling up that way, and if it works with your own schedule (which is about to fill up in '09, I'm sure ), we'd both enjoy and provide some stellar wine for it!

Dan,

Just looked at a map and it appears Springfield is SW of St. Louis and Saline Cty is WNW. However, it's a straight shot down Rt. 65 - about 150 miles, but from everything I've heard of Brown Derby over the years it should be worth a day trip.

Thanks, Bob. We've gone up there through Memphis via Hwy 63 before, and if we take that route, it's easy to hop over to 65 in Springfield for a little wine detour before heading N on 65. We'll definitely stop the next time we go that route!

I did most of my shopping at "The Wine and Cheese Place" off Clayton RD when I lived in St. Louis. Good Luck!

Sounds good. Let me know!

As Duane says, Wine and Cheese place is good, too.
