1994 Sokol Blosser Redland Winemaker Reserve Pinot Noir; Yamhill County Oregon - $23.99

Positively GORGEOUS, vibrant, bright, ruby red, medium full body and excellent limpidity. On the nose, plenty of cherry, cola, some leather and an herbal edge. On the palate, loads of sweet yet tart and tangy cherry saddled up with some pleasant leather, tea and herbs. Excellent structure with firm but fine tannins. Wonderfully balanced and I’m very happy I have 4 remaining.

Enjoyed with a lunch of pan fried chicken tenderloins tossed with onion, zucchini, red bell pepper and mushroom with a sauce made from the wine.

"Limpidity?" "Saddled up... leather?" I don't know, Van -- you're on a roll!

I confess total ignorance about Sokol Blossom (except what I've tasted at IPNCs). In fact, one of the principals called me up just this past week and chided me on this. Sent me a bottle of "Evolution #9," which I haven't opened yet. Going back to Oregon on May 11... maybe at long last I'll check out what's making you slap some rhetorical leather lately.
