We killed a baby. Anne brought this back from SD (Vintage Wines) the last time she was out there, and I had been so good to keep my hands off it. However, the "oversize bottle" space in the cellar is getting tight, and I did have a birthday this week, so I thought "Oh, well." Decanted it for an hour before serving and through the evening, but this was still tight as a drum. Nose of plum and cherry, which follow on the entry, but the fruit is still a bit wrapped in tannins at this point, and the heat was felt a bit on a somewhat oaky finish. I think if this was given time to calm down it would have been rather nice. Right now, though, it's a big dog who's owners just came home from vacation. Alc. 14.2%. $40. The '03 is available at the local Whole Foods now at the same price, but if we pick up a bottle, we're letting it sit awhile.
