Les Vaucrains is considered one of the better Premier Cru vineyards of Nuits-St-Georges in Burgundy.
I probably won't be able to do justice to this wine. It was just lovely. I had a 3 oz. pour at Enoteca Vin, Raleigh, for $11.00. (1.5 oz. for $5.50, a glass for $18.25 and a bottle for $65).

Dark red color, clear but hard to see through. Frothy at rim when poured. Very smoky nose--bacon and dark raspberries. (I had often heard the bacon fat description for Burgundies and sometimes Rhone reds but this is the first time I encountered it so undeniably.) The nose was reflected in the flavors. Some soft unresolved tannins but overall a wine of elegance and finesse. I had ordered one bottle before tasting and am dying to order more although the price makes me hesitate a bit.
