2002 Domain Francois Lumpp Givry 1er Cru Petit Marole

Charming, lighter in colour than many other ’02 burgs. But it is clearly peaking and should be consumed, from a lesser area. Originally was a very serious wine with a great tannic structure. Now that tannins have resolved, it reveals a somewhat simplier wine than I had initially thought. Nose of sweet light strawberries, berries, a strangely integrated oak, but still a very reasonable sample of a decent if inexpensive burg.

2003 Schug Pinot Noir

This wine was a good contrast between the two different styles. Riper and sweeter, very nice on the palate with energy lacking in the Petite Marole, cherries and berries. It was for me a bit candied to be honest, but showing very well and very approachable right now. Not overtly complex but nice for lunch with sandwiches.

Is the second Pinot Noir from Sonoma or a California designation or what?
