Big pinot here. Dark red verging on purple in color. Knockout nose of plum and berry. The palate was not quite as impressive. Good ripe dark fruit flavors with a little bit of a mineral note and good length on the finish, but it needs time to open up and resolve some tannin. If the nose is any indication, this should be terrific in a few years.

This is the first '98 I've had and on this slim evidence I have to say that Rovani and the Wine Advocate are way off base in their criticism of the vintage.
