At Enoteca Vin, a fine place to dine,
I went to sample some cheeses and wine.
Boule de Quercy is a goat cheese from France--
Only two weeks' old--you can almost see the "kids" prance.
Wild raspberry leaves topped the cheese
With crostini it was certain to please.
Puligny-Montrachet was the pairing I chose
And this is getting tricky so I'm turning to prose.

2001 Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet "Champ Gain"
1.5 oz. pour for $5.50 I've liked this one in the past and have purchased it. Smooth texture, light oak, elegant wine with a lithe body. Very adaptable to food.

Compared it to:
2000 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet (possibly "Les Pucelles" but I'm not sure about that--the Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet isn't listed on their current online wine list)
1.5 oz. pour for $7.25
Puligny-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive was definitely more buttercream toffee flavor than the Benoit Ente wine. Still elegant. Slight smoky element probably from the French oak barrels or barriques.

After the soft goat cheese I went to a hard-textured and tangy raw sheep's milk cheese--a Pecorino from Italy with two red wine pours.
First up (and probably I should have reversed the order but I went by the wine list order which may be more by cost than by body) was the
2002 Noah "Duarte" Zinfandel (1.5 oz. pour for $3.25) The winery is in Yountville appellation but the grapes are from Duarte Vineyard in Contra Costa County (try saying that three times quickly after a few drinks). Pronounced berry nose. Starts lightly on the front of the mouth and hits with surprising power and fullness mid-palate. Very smooth and balanced. Not sure how this one will age but it is quite deletable young. Suggestive of blackberries and cassis. I like this! Reasonably priced at $25 a bottle at Carolina Wine Company.

Then on to:
2002 Anne Gros Chambolle Musigny "La Combe D'Orveau" 1.5 oz. pour for $5.50
Light bodied red Burgundy, exhibiting finesse. Pale burgundy color, less color-saturated than many premier cru burgundies, color thinning even more at the rim. Mild cherry flavor and nose. Not a blockbuster but a nice delicate wine that would pair well with some veal dishes or roast game birds or other fowl.
