Know Hotsie and probably MrD have their pot of Black-eyed Peas on by now. You can`t start a new year with any confidence wif`-out a pot of Black-Eyes and a pan of Jalepeno Corn-Bread. To any and all who don`t have the heritage, E-Me and I`ll eat a spoon-ful in your stead. The strongest medicine since Dr. Porquits` "All Curing Ointment and Hand Lotion". Chopping the Maui onions and opening the Biale Crane Zin now. A two-day affair. WW

We'll have our Black-Eyes tomorrow, WW. Had to settle for grilled T's with Blackstone tonight. If she doesn't make jalepeno cornbread, I'll just dump hot sauce onto the Black-Eyes. That green sauce from Tabasco works great!

We have to have a Cajun New Year's Eve, since the wifeypoo is Cajun. That means a big pot of Gumbo..... popped open a Swan Mourvedre to stand up to this dish.

Hey WW, don't leave me out of this! While I might live in NYC, I'm a Southern Boy, born in Atlanta.

Down South, no New Year's is complete without some Hoppin' John. My mother-in-law is from Savannah--it's a lowcountry thing. A pot of collard greens is a must as well.

Don't know what wine to drink with it, though--this year will be a first pairing!

A healthy and prosperous New Year to all--

Wasn't paying attention; Hoppin' John is essentially black-eyed peas with some rice and such tossed in.

Hoppin`John I`ve had. I doctor the Black-eyes with onions, fresh garlic, tomatoes, and the remnants of the Virginia Ham left from Christmas,( Naturally Bone-In), plopped in my big ole stew pot with about 50/50 chicken broth and water, throw 3 or 4 bay leafs in and cook for 8 hours. MMMMM-GOOOOD! I`ll be having sin-fantsmic luck all year `cause I ate a big bowl last nite and coupled with the obligatory pig-out today makes for invincability. Rad, had a 96 Biale Zin" Aldo" vineyard with it. Perfect. Made the tobasco (red&green) absolutely sing. I`ll review it on the proper thread. I`m becoming redundant but ' HAPPY NEW TEAR 'WW

I love black-eyed peas, however my wife has no love for them at all.........

However, I did get a plate full of greens and ham hocks, cuz both my Son-in-law and I love them. He's from Georgia country and knows how to make them greens. Delicious!

Also had my fill of Edwards' Surrey Ham - aged the old fashioned way for about a year.

Now I have to go back on my low fat diet, quickly...............

Too late!

The black-eyes were flavored with bacon, onion, Lea & Perrins, salt, pepper, Tabasco and Texas Champagne (a red cayenne pepper sauce from D.L. Jardine's 7J Ranch in Buda, TX, on the Web at www.jardinefoods.com.) And she fooled me (again): she had frozen some of her jalepeno cornbread from Christmas dinner, so we had that with the wunnerful little peas, grilled chicken & baked spuds. I finished off yesterday's bottle of Cline Zin and she did the same to a partial bottle of Blackstone Merlot. I had five helpings of those fresh, crispy little peas, and could have eaten the whole pot! <oink>

And may Babe bless you brother Hotsie. WW
