I normally don't care for Pepperwood Grove wines but I stumbled into my fav. wine store this afternoon and asked the owner to suggest a value Pinot Noir as we were having homemade mixed bean soup w/ham from "Heavenly Ham" (a chain of stores that specialize in nice ham), left over salad with the Stilton and Balsamic Vinegar bit and Italian bread from my favorite bakery. This Pinot was GREAT! $5.99 dark, rich, good acidity plus a little pepper on a moderate finish. The wife drank more than her 1/2 bottle share.

Always a sucker fer cheap wine w/ any hint that it might actually be decent, so took your advice Drew. Opened the PG Pinot last night to taste..dark w/ nice nose of red fruit, oak & hint of smoke, but not impressive to taste. Had the juice today at lunch w/ mixed bean & bacon soup & cornbread. After sitting overnight, the pinot had opened up w/ better fruit on the palate than last night & went well w/ the soup.

Thanks! cp

Tried a 2000 version last night. Paid $7 for it locally, and highly recommended by the new prop at Blue Hill Wines. It is a good value at $7, but other than a blast of fruit, shows little else. I know, what do I expect. Well their Syrah at just a little more shows much more if reveiws are to be believed. I would rather pay a couple of bucks more and get a Villa Mt Eden which is much more wine. This one went fine with grillpanned pork chops on a Tuesday night.

We had this at our wedding, way back in '01. Worked quite well indeed for a young couple with a limited budget, paired with delicious grilled salmon and chicken.
