Yes.....I know....but I could not resist trying....

I've never had a Loring wine before and had a friend over for dinner so we both decided to pop it.

It was entirey different than what I was expecting. Had assumed that it would be a dark brooding Cali Pinot but instead, I get this pretty garnet coloured wine that was translucent. On the nose, mostly red fruits like strawberries and raspberries, hint of cedar and some earthiness, again not like Loring's description of something darker. Maybe it was just my calibration.

On the palate, wow, pretty red fruit, super smooth mouthfeel, probably due to 14.5% alcohol, felt a hint sweet, cedar, juicy, very fresh which made it very attractive to me. Nice density of flavours, not overdone, good balance. A bit simple (more use to burgs) but that did not detract from how delicious it was. Might be just a hint too candied for me but certainly for tonight, with just bagette sandwiches and salads, it was a very nice wine to go with dinner.

I'm the same way -- I watch the Loring bottles start to add up from the mailing list shipments, and it's hard to wait on them! Everything I've opened so far has been too early -- I got on in '04, so all I have are '04s to '06s if I want to do some exploring. Thanks for the note on this, as it's in our cellar, too!

This past month when the winter shipments went out, I was coming home weekly from the office with boxes of wine , Tobin, Loring, Pali, etc,.. then the JJ Buckly stuff I bought during the summer, the '05 burgs coming in, the 05 CDP's coming in......my office was wonder what the hell I was doing.....as was my significant other.....I mean I love getting them..but the pain inflicted on the credit card .... well. ...ouch...
