Santa Rita Hills

We had tried this wine by the glass almost two years ago at Woodfire Grill in Atlanta, and it offered youthful and racy cherry and cinnamon stick flavors. It is evolving into a different, much more complex animal as it gets some bottle age.

Dark garnet in color. Decanted 15 minutes before 1st pour. Somewhat subdued nose of mostly plum and anise, and the flavors are deep and subtle. There is an earthy note and a not unpleasant note of tobacco that makes it very interesting. On the finish, the cherry flavors that I remembered do show up; Anne found them somewhat like maraschino cherries. Silky mouthfeel and appropriate PN weight. It's interesting to see what a little bottle age can do sometimes. 14.1 alc. Paid about $33 locally. FWIW, WS gave it an 85.

The winemaker, Kathy Joseph, (I think that's her name) was on a panel at a Pinot Noir tasting in Charlotte. She's a very enthusiastic individual.
