13.5% alcohol
$14.99 for 375 ml. bottle in DC wine shop
Cork dry and broke during opening; some small cork particles in the glass after pouring through a tea strainer.
Burgundy color; clear.
Dark cherry and cedar aromas.
The first impression was of fading fruit overcome by a woody taste. (Label says aged in small barrels for extended period.) The wine improved after about 40 minutes aeration. The fruit came out more in both aroma and flavor. Wood was still noticeable but more in the background. This wine may be nearing the end of its drinking window.

ALAS WOW this house makes far better Cabs than Pinots. 7 years is getting to the edge for great Pinot producers. WW

I think you're right, WW. I had one really good ZD Pinot Noir at a Pinehurst Wine Festival (not sure of vintage) and have been searching for the same again with disappointing results. However, I did order two bottles of the 2001 ZD Cabernet Sauvignon (the regular, not the reserve which was getting too pricy for me). I should be picking up the two bottles this fall.
