2002 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou - Bright ruby in color. Nose of dark fruits, somefloral, violet, pencil shavings and cedar. Very smooth mouthfeel, round, elegant with a hint of sweetness. Nice density and balance. The wine gained weight over time and I'm sure that more time would have benefitted the wine. $60 a bottle

Hey I got stuck out in Berkeley with nadda to drink.....at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Yah know the real issues it that I can't bring wine into the plane's cabin anymore. Anything I bring has to go into storage and if so, then whatever I bring cannot be consumed within the trip that I bring it on as it will need at least a few weeks to open back up. As such, I have to plan my consumption at least one trip prior and leave it at a friends house...it leaves very little room for spontaneity.

As such it leaves me with very little choice but to buy sometimes

I was in this wine shop in Quebec City the last couple of days.....I was pretty shellshock for what was inside. I'll explain in another post but it was liquid heaven. Had dinner with people that I'm not allowed to name for their protection and yes....spent a lot of money in that wine store.... Explain to me Engineer what you can and cannot do with wine bottles on airplanes these days. I will be flying to CT for Christmas and may want to take one or two bottles along to share with family members.

No problem. I'll let you know what I know. This also only applies to carry on baggage. There are no changes to checked luggage. With the current threat level at Orange for airlines, one of the new protocols that was put into effect was that you cannot bring any liquids from outside the security area into the gate area. The only exceptions are medicines with labels and names, baby's formula (but better in powder format) and any toiletries under 4 oz.

Also any liquids must be placed into clear 1 quart bads with the zip lock seals and they must be brought out for inspections at the security gate.

No other liquids are from outside the security area are allowed past the security area. The only change recently is that liquids purchased within the secured areas will now be allowed onto planes (such as coffee, bottled water, etc) but they have to be purchased within the secured areas.

This means that any bottle of wine will not be allowed to be carried past the the security desk and as such must be checked. Airlines also do not want responsibility for such fragile items so they will ask you to sign a waiver for these items. Pack them well. I've never had any problems shipping wine as Checked Luggage. It's just that the wines are exposed to almost freezing temperatures so they are so tight when they arrive at the location. They are also vibrated and handled more versus if they were in condition air within the cabin space.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need any more informaton.

This wine sounds really good. I find the price tag to be decent as well. I want to try it sometime.

A belated thank you to Engineer for responding about airline restrictions. I have packed wine in checked luggage before but always feel its a risk the way luggage gets tossed around by the handlers.

Yeah, I get nervous too. Even when I get full cases that come in those wood packing cases, I open the case and pack it in those $10 styrofoam boxes before I give it to the airlines. I suspect that a wood crate would not take the abuse that an individual container takes.
