1998 Chateau Pierron, Buzet ($9 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Alcohol, the ubiquitous 12.5%. Buzet, formally known as the Cotes de Buzet, is a region north of Bordeaux on the East Bank, in the vicinity of Armagnac. This one is 70% Merlot, and 15% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc. Got to it just in time, as the fruit was beginning to fade. It showed mature fruit including red currents and plums on the nose and upfront. Gave nice complexity, smooth tannin, and modest oak across the palate; and a decent finish. Matched with sauteed burgers and salad in blue cheese dressing with our own yellow pear tomatoes. All very nice.
