'00 Bahans Haut-Brion?
'01 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux?
'88 Franc-Mayne?

My (now far) better half picked these up for me over the weekend just to be nice. Of course, that means foot rubs, cooking dinner, etc. are in my immediate future as partial recompense.

I am generally familiar with the producers, particularly the first two, but I'm just starting to move into Cab/Bordeaux land, likely due to WW's quiet board influence over the past several years, so I'm less familiar with rough aging guidelines by producer than I am with, say, Rioja. If they were yours, how long would you let them sit? Also, if one was to be opened in the near future to share as a "thank you," which should it be and with what cheese would you pair it with?

The Bahans Haut-Brion is a nice, fruit forward wine, with lots of berry/cherry fruit and chocolate. A B+/A- wine.

I have not had the 01 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux. The 00 is a very nice wine, perhaps their best ever. I heard the 01 is not up to 00 standards.

I hope your experience with the 88 Franc-Mayne is better than mine. I had it at a tasting a few years ago and it was a dud according to my notes. I put a C+/B- wine at best.

Thanks for the input. Just realized that I had a typo moment -- it's the '98 Franc-Mayne. Hope it's better than the '88 [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]

Both the 98 and 00 are resting in my cellar. They are not blockbusters, but very nice B*/A- wines, with lots of structure.
