A friend has offered me a case of 12x75cl Chateau Lafitte Rothschild 1976. Could someone give me an approximate value.

There are plenty of people on this stie that know more about this wine than me but a quick google search revealed that this wine lists with Nickolls and Perks (UK: Stourbridge) for just a over 80 Pounds per bottle. However, personal sales will always bring less than retail.

Can I be his friend too?

Medium to dark ruby with some browning at the edges, this wine is approaching maturity and exhibits an interesting, moderately intense bouquet of ripe plums, spicy oak, and leather. Plenty of tannin is still evident, but the overall balance and depth of fruit suggest that the tannin will clearly outlive the fruit. It lacks the depth and concentration to be great, but for the vintage it is a respectable Mouton for drinking over the next decade. I must say that the wine's evolution has been much slower than I would have suspected.

I think that Parker note might have been about the Mouton, not about the Lafite in question.

One of the best wines in a vintage in which other wines are now beginning to go past their prime. Extremely rich and wonderful. Drinkable now. (JS)

Very good in quality. It has very herbal, currantlike aromas, with smooth fruit and herb flavors and some smoky accents. Drink now to 2000.--Lafite Rothschild vertical.

Hi Graham and welcome to the board. My only concern is the provenance of this wine. It was not a particularly stellar vintage and the storage needs to be very good or this wine is on the down-hill side. That said the wine should be a good buy for both of you at between 700-1000 for the case. It sold on futures for around 275-300 per case. WW
