what's a good cookout wine to have on hand. basic fare, hot dogs, corn on the cob, etc.

I keep Syrah and Grenache on hand for that purpose. Some folks would choose a zin but I rarely have one.

Summer fare is the primary reason I keep rose in the house. Also, we drink a ton of Beaujolais Cru and Villages all summer long with things like you suggested.

Dry European rosés and sparklers. And Sangria.

Yup! Rose and Sangria and Sparklers. On the last one, I often use a moscato D'Asti as well as there are many female wine drinkers that really like this, in addition to me. Really refreshing and perfect for the heat....as is Sangria, both red and specifically the Sparkling versions!

My best Sangria (I've probably posted it here somewhere). One bottle very pale Provencal rose. 1/2 can Sprite. 8 oz apple juice. 2 oz brandy. Chunks of watermelon, canteloupe and pineapple. No one doesn't love this one.

Gonna have to try that. Sound ssimple enough!
