I rarely get to taste Bordeaux with some maturity, but this was a bottle shared at my table at the Open That Bottle Night at St. Jacques Restaurant in Raleigh. Don and Jessica, sitting to my right, brought this wine along with a younger Bordeaux. It had some nice secondary or tertiary mature odors and tastes with a tolerable amount of funk or barnyard. I was grateful to have a bit of it, especially when you consider the price it brings nowadays. This Chateau is considered a leading super second growth and is in the Saint Julien region.

It's interesting that you mention the funk. Even with its high price, this chateau has had problems with Brett well into the 90's. Might the funk be attributed to this?

I would guess that it might be attributable to Brett. I read the notes on the wine on CellarTracker and only one mentioned funk but it was present.
