Hi I am getting married in just a couple of weeks and will be having Indian food. Neither my fiance nor I know much about wine, so we are wondering if you have any ideas on what wines work well with this type of cuisine. There will be chicken tikka and other vegetables in gravy sauces. The folks at the reception hall offer CK Mondavi and Estancia --CK Mondavi is more within our price range (because they are charging us 3x the cost at a winery). Anyway, your thoughts on what kind of white wine, and white kind of red (merlot, cabarnet, etc) should be put at each table would be of great help.

Thank you

Hi Vanita, and welcome to the Wine Board. Don't know why the folks you are dealing with are so rigid. What they are offering does not go with Indian food. Try to get them to go along with Columbia Crest Gewurtztraminer, and Rosemount Shiraz or other light Australian Shiraz. They are in the same price range as what they are offering. The rationale for these recommendations is spicy with spicy, but more than that, there is wide agreement that these two do marry well with Indian food. Hope your marrying goes well too.

I'm with IK, with an addition, an inexpensive sparkler (Champagne) works well also.

Whoops, forgot about the bubbly; a necessity for any wedding. Thanks Bucko.
