- Kcwhippet - 05-25-2005 We just got a ton of Burgs in the shop, among them are several White Burgs. When I looked at one of them, I thought this would be one you'd probably like to try. It's the 2002 Domaine des Comtes Montrachet Grand Cru. A steal at only $750. - TheEngineer - 05-25-2005 I'm gonna have to come by just to take a picture of this.... $750 a bottle?.... - Kcwhippet - 05-25-2005 Not a typo. We have that and a few others in lower prices from Lafon, St. Mrtin and Laurent in new. We already have a bunch more put up on the shelves in the past few weeks. All are in the $50 plus price range. Even with the employee discount, none of those Burgs look like they'll be our everyday wines soon. - TheEngineer - 05-25-2005 KC, I did believe your post.....I think my wife would shoot me if I walked home with a few......but it's like touching an aged DRC...can't afford it but can dream about it. - winoweenie - 05-26-2005 750 fer a SW?????? The worlds' gone MAD!!!WW - Kcwhippet - 05-26-2005 Well, if you want a red, we have an Imperial of 98 Lynch-Bages for $650 waiting just for you, ww. - wondersofwine - 05-26-2005 Are you thinking of bringing it to me at the offline, KC? That would be nice. - Kcwhippet - 05-26-2005 The thought never crossed my mind. My employee discount isn't that good. If I had much deeper pockets, though, it sure would be fun to give it a try. Seriously, I just can't imagine a wine that would have to be orders of magnitude above all the others that it could command such a price. - wondersofwine - 05-26-2005 The first Montrachet I ever tried (and it was so long ago that I can't recall the vintage or the producer) convinced me that this was indeed the "queen" of white Burgundies. I've attended two other tastings where we sampled two or more vintages of Montrachet but some were not all that impressive. Probably the best was 1966? or 1969? from Leroy that had been recorked and released in more recent times. |
