Stopped in one of my fav. wine shops this afternoon to buy a '98 Penneys Hill Oz Shiraz and was "forced" to sample some Geyser Peak wines.

'98 Alexander Valley Cab.
Loved this one with flavors of Port and blackberry liquor. Very elegant and balanced. Will buy this with no hesitation. 14.1 %Alc/vol.

'98 Napa Valley Cab.
Muted flavors and more tannic. Bitter chocolate and deep plum, not as fruit forward as the Alexander. 13.8 %Alc/vol. Nice wine and will age.

'98 Napa Reserve
Diluted compared to the above. Not exciting and a pass. Didn't drink like a reserve.

'97 Napa Meritage
Now here's a bottle!!!! Very floral on the nose,(Cab Franc). Serious colour and flavors of deep dark fruit, chocolate and cinnamon the finish lasting 30+ sec. Loved it and can't get any. (The owner opened just for fun)

I don't have prices on any of the bottlings but given the economy and the feelings toward those dastery '98s you could probably pick up an Alexander Valley at a good price. The notes were from memory and not formal. Hell, she kept pouring and I almost forgot why I stopped in...if you get my drift.
