Eileen's birthday was Sunday so popped this beauty. There's something about the '97 vintage that's very special. The elegant concentration of the fruit. Not just big, concentration, in your face but an elegance like a ballerina with a fierce left hook. I opened this wine 5 to 10 years too early. Beautiful cassis and black fruits, oily mouth feel dense but lithe with hints of earthy 'nilla, a touch of chocolate and cherry cordial. Plenty of packed, fine tannins on the midpalate through the long finish. Lovely wine to share with my lovely who turned 45 going on 35. 13.9%Alc/vol. I think I paid $18? As we always say...wished I'd bought more.

Another victory for this kick-patootie vintage. Just checked my inventory and kaint believe I dint get any of this wonderful juice. Have the Alluvium and the Pvt. Reserve but not the Knights'. Normally on my short list. WW

Have a 3 liter of the 97 KV. Too bad I can't carry bottles on the plane anymore.
