Hope someone out there can help. I am having my daughter's bat-mitzvah shortly and need advice for the wine to serve. It need not be kosher. I would like to serve wine during the cocktail hour and then carry them over to dinner. I would love a few choices..reasonably priced since I have to serve a lot of people. Dinner is sea bass and filet mignon. I am wine illiterate. Also how many bottles would you get for 185 people? Thank you in advance!

Hi USCMIA, and welcome to the Wine Board. Recommend Baron Herzog Syrah (red) and Chardonnay (white). These are dry kosher wines that we enjoy ourselves as gentiles. Even tho you said the wines don't have to be kosher, getting these will cover all your bases, and they are not cloying as many people associate with kosher wine.

You will need four cases of wine for 185 people. Hope everything goes well for you.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Just curious of any other suggestions for Non-kosher...just in case I have trouble getting these? Also you said 4 cases....4 cases of each kind? Sorry but I am really a beginner. Thanks in advance!

Four cases total. The Baron Herzog wines are very widely available. If the Syrah is not immediately available, their Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are both quite nice. I recommended Syrah because for crowds, it is more of a pleaser than other reds.

Thanks a million. Really appreciate the advise. Have a great day.
