My GREAT friend Walt gave me a bottle of '92 Hess Collection as a gift. Anyone out there had this wine lately? Is it in its prime now?

This is the #3 wine in the '95 Wine Spectator Top 100.

Thanks!

Hi there Cellar2small and welcome to the board. You have a lot of Ex-Oakies on the board including me. Lived in Tulser nigh on 17 yars, but that's another story. If you go back on the cabernet thread you'll find a complete tasting of the 92's. If you don;t feel like doing that IMHO, the 92 Hess is at the top of it's game (and it's a whale of a game). Can't get much better. Stand that lil' lovely up for a day and pop the cork. WW

WW,

Thanks for your "IMHO" on my '92 Hess. It's resting quietly in my cellar, and I'm plotting on who to invite over to share that jewel with. I'm excited about the opportunity! BTW, how's the '97 Hess Napa Valley? I found 6 bottles at the corner store today, but left them alone for now.

I had family over this evening for a child's birthday dinner. We popped corks on two bottles of Greg Norman Cab/Merlot '98 Coonawarra -- that wine is smoothing out nicely. Delicious! My mom was blown away by it, and was mad a me when I told her I bought up all of it I could find in town (2 cases).

Thanks again, bottoms up!

Golf isn't the only thing Greg does right...his Cab/Merlot is mighty tasty.

C2S, Haven't had the heart to open one of those lil' babies yet but as an avowed fan of Hess' wines since inception and given the overall quality of the vintage I'd bet Drews' bottle of Penfolds Grange against a 4-litre box of Franzia it's great. ( I've put down 2 cases of the lil' booger and mite buy more. ) WW Just saw the new WS and it rated the lil' babe at a lite-runnin' 90.
