1991 Optima, Alexander Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon (approx $25). Absolute delight. Caught it at full maturity, even perhaps just a tad past its prime. WW advised drinking it last year. Still, not even a little disappointing. Purplish garnet red color to the eye. Dark fruit and eucalyptus on the nose. Dark jammy fruit upfront, wonderfully complex structure and lovely, perfectly smoothed out tannin across the palate, and bells and whistles on the finish. Broke it out for Mother's last night home for a week as she is on her way to care for two of our grandkids until Saturday. Matched it with very traditionally charcoal grilled filet mignons with bacon rasher, OO, and Morton rub; along with farmer's market fresh wax beans with butter and fine herbs. Mmmm good.

The Optima IMHO is structured to be accessable on release but normally has the stuffin' to take it 7-10. Glad it was still a pleasure as I jes' hates it when them suckers be spoiled! WW
