....this wine is usually a popular case buy wine for people, thus the impetus. Either the wine is less than optimal or I had a bad sample bottle. The wine? 1998 Beringer Knight's Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Disjointed, loaded with astringent green tannins and a bitter taste, this wine had no endearing value for me at all. Has anyone else tried this wine?

I haven't Bucko, but will get a bottle tomorrow. This has always been in the forefront of P/Q wines. Maybe another casuality of the vintage? WW

Could it be, a'la Dan Berger, that it will be dynamite ten or twelve years down the line. He thinks that about most of the '98 vintage.

I love Dan, but I do not agree with him. The 98 vintage has been unimpressive and the future of the wines is questionable IMHO.

I'm whole-taste-budsly wif' Herr Bucmeister on this. With the winemaking skills that abound now, there are exceptions to any vintage generalization, but why drink thru the chaff of the 98s' when there are still many of the wonderful 97s on the shelves and a good 99 ventage just a Reidel away? WW
