Either really shut down or just a mess of a Cab. What little fruit was present was overpowered by harsh tannins and more tannins and lots of heat from the 14.5% alc/vol. Thankfully cost me nothing as a gift from a wine shop but I think prices range from $65 to over $100.

Those Howell Mountain wines can have brutal tannins (I've only tried those from Randy Dunn.)

Bruce Scotland, the original promoter of this vineyard is a friend of mine who granulated from selling wine at St. Helena Wine Merchants to this killer vineyard. Never found out who the money man was but eventually he asked Bruce to take his leave. Have his 97 Beatty Ranch(Howell) and also his Black Sears. Both were(are) outstyanding bottlings. Just ready to open a Beatty when I run thru the remaining 99s' in the on deck circle. WW
