Hmmmm where shall I start....

-Randy and I dating?! Now that would make for an 'interesting' date. How 'bout it Randy, I will wear my new black dress if you wear your black silk. I can read the headlines now....COUPLE MURDERED IN THEIR SEATS BY IRRATE SPOUSES sorry Caldan, that is a no can do.

Calden, I am the first to admit that an attractive man that shows a confident air about him would catch my attention each and every time, over someone who does not display that. WE are all human after all, and most men want those things in a woman as well, so I am more than familiar with the drill. But I still prefer one who IS confident over someone just PRETENDING to be confident.

wine/food pairing-It is NOT rocket science after all, and there are not nearly as many rules as you might guess. The wine snobs will tell you differently, but don't listen to them......so you need not be intimidated by the process. Take a look at the back posts on this board...Randy and the others have given many great ideas and Randy in particular is very good at explaining WHY it works.

The wine for dummies book IS a good beginner book, easy and a QUICKer read than some of the others in my opinion. If you don't want to drop the $$$ on a book, look what your library has to offer....mine has a number of good ones available. Also, don't discard the idea of using the restaurant's own staff. Just be smart about it....don't expect to walk in there at dinner time and get their help....make prior arrangements, or stop by at a slow time of the day, when they would have more time to address your questions. IMO, if they are really interested in their business and clients, they will be pleased to help.

As for the woman....this was all meant in fun, and I hope whatever you do, you are successful. Good luck!!

Nancy

Is it safe to creep back into this conversation? Nancy's making me blush, and I've just removed the wineboard icon from my desktop (in case the missus accidentally clicks on).

But seriously... again:

1. I believe that if a woman is going through some moderate trauma or bad period, it's always best to practice the art of listening first, and turn on some LOW key charm at the appropriate moments (it seems that most of the women I've known have troubles).

2. In this instance, I also alway say Pinot Noir -- even in Italian restaurants -- since Pinot Noir is a red wine varietal with the type of velvet texture and lingering, palate sinking flavor that seems to bring out some depth of feeling. She'll FEEL your sympathy and understanding (presuming you have it), which naturally should lead to...

Aw shucks, I'm dreaming out loud again... aren't I, Nancy? Oh well, good luck on that eventual date!

Seriously Randy, you need to write that book. Let me know if you need an editor.

By the way, I have another first date scheduled with a different woman at a different Italian place tomorrow night. Don't even know if she likes wine, but I'll keep the group informed...

Hey Caldan, Randy's advice can be validated only if you get a second date with the same woman...

How do you get all these dates anyway? Whaddayou some kinda cool guy? If so, stay cool (and healthy) by getting deeper and deeper into wine. The pleasures are almost as good as -- well, you know...

Safe Randy?? I don't think anytime they have us dating, we can consider the conversation safe. <grin> Removing the icon is a good idea.

You and your pinot Randy, what am I going to do with you??? I know what I am going to do with ME.....remind myself NOT to let you order it if we are dining together. Too dangerous!!!

But Caldan, I have to admit that this time the Date Demon is right....pinot is an excellent choice for most women, and the rest of his advice is not too bad either.

Dreams.....you are always dreaming, Randy. I like that.

I don't think I remember you ever NOT daring to say something foodie. But Pinot Envy???
