A perfect match for New York strip steaks tonight. Richly colored dark red/purple, not opaque. Youthful and tannic with flavors of dark fruit, sweet vanilla with bitter chocolate notes emerging after several hours. A little heat on the nose that didn't dissipate over the 3 hours of drinking this gem. Nice lingering finish. 13.8% Alc/vol. $15. At this stage a very nice steak wine and one that I think will age nicely...and not overly oaked IMHO. 97% Cab with 3% Cab Franc.

Drew:

FWIW, my notes from my first taste of this gem two months ago...

"deep blackish, purple. classic cab nose and taste, with VERY big fruit midpalate. a thick, almost juicy wine, with layered tastes and a nice finish. there are plenty of tannins here, but i found them to be very soft and they didn't seem to cut off the tastebuds much at all. WS made it a spectator selection and gave it a 90. i'd say more like a 91, especially when considering P/Q."

...i've since bought a case of this wine and am even thinking about buying another. this stuff is drinking great now and will only improve for 5 or more years, i'd guess.

Popped my last bottle last night and it hasn't fared so well. Seemed to have lost some of it's fruit and tasted on the downslide. Storage is good so it probably wasn't meant to go 7 or an off bottle. BTW, terrible storms here today. The town of Havre de Grace, 15 miles from us on the Chesapeake, is completley under water...we fared ok though. My Mom in Law is in the hospital with cellulitis (sp?) of the foot and lower leg. We're supposed to start a two week vacation at good 'ol Ocean City Maryland on Friday and that's in question now. Got 3 cases of juice to take down and 3 cases already there and friends awaiting to sample but we're kinda on hold. Will let you know how it goes.

Sorry Drew. Hopefully things will be under control by this weekend. Also hopefully the weather will improve. We had a nice day up here today, but are not sure that summer is truly here. One day last week it didn't get over 54 degrees.

Hate it when plans get put on hold. Dunno whether to s--- or go blind. Best wishes for the mom-in-law, though.
