I just came across a store with a couple of cases of Robert Mondavi Oakville Cab,'98. They are getting rid of it for $19.95/bottle. It's one of those situations where we won't drink it until this weekend. What does anyone think? Should I run and buy more before they sell it all? Or should I taste it first?

Welcome to the board IU66. Is that a graduation date or just the 66 person to ask for IU as an identifier?
WW may have an answer for you. I'm not sure I've tried that one, but '98 was a difficult year for cabernet sauvignon in California (Pinot Noir grapes fared better because they ripen about a month earlier and were picked before the rainy days came.) I have liked some '98 cabs from California and find them drinkable now but probably without the structure to age well. Probably should try before buying more and don't buy more than you will drink in the next year or two.

Hey Iu(*^#& and welcome to the board. The 98 Oakville is a very nice near term cab with lots of stuffing for the bucks being asked. Taking the 97 at 32 by the bax and the 99 at 37 by the box this should be hokey-dokey at under 20. If you have the time and palate, open a bottle, let it breath for an hour, and assess its' assets.
