2000 Los Vascos, Domaines Barons De Rothschild (Lafite), Cabernet Sauvignon, Colchagua, Chile ($6.99 Costco). Was looking for a nice smooth cab to go with broiled fillet steak with bacon rasher, baguette dipped in Tenuta Del Numerouno OO, and salad with blue cheese dressing tonight, and picked this one. It was as nice as any varietal Chilian cab as any at this price point. No particular varietal character, but nice fruit, some oak enhanced complexity and very smooth tannin across the palate, and a nice finish. All was wonderful.

2001 Los Vasco, Reserve, Colchagua, Chile ($16 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Another bottle with the Domaine Barons De Rothschild (Lafite) name on it. Alcohol 13.5%. The bottle does not say if this is all Cab or a Bordeaux blend. The internet seems to think it only comes in a pure Cab version.

It has deep purple color with fruity aromas on the nose. It gives you soft cassis up front, nice complexity on the palate with powerful well structured tannins and a persistently long finish. Much better than the regualar '00 Cab, as it should be for the extra ten spot. Mathced it with sliced grillpanned boneless sirloin with nice EVOO and Morton Rub, dinner rolls, and salad in vinaigrette. Way to go on a Saturday night.
