Wine enthusiasts invited to escape to Monterey County from February 14-16, 2003

Monterey County, CA- What could be a better Valentine’s Day getaway then an unforgettable weekend in romantic wine country? The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA) invite you to experience the splendor and unparalleled beauty of the region during their First Annual Passport Weekend.

This three day event will take place starting February 14, 2003 and end February 16, 2003 (Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm). The wine trail journey begins with the guest picking up their commemorative wine glass and official Passport (with their photo inside). Then they will embark on their wine trail journey by visiting the various wineries and getting their passport stamped at each location. Winery guests will enjoy music, food and wine tasting among some of the fun planned for this weekend. It is important to note that guests do not have to taste the wine to have their passport stamped and as with all MCVGA sponsored events a reduced admission ticket is available for designated drivers. Upon completion of visiting a selected amount of wineries, participants will receive a box of wine filled chocolates and will be entered to win the grand prize of a Monterey Wine Country gift basket, valued at over $1000.

“This event was created with both couples and singles in mind”, explains Tamara Weinstein, Event Director at the MCVGA. “Exploring wine country provides couples with the ideal intimate setting to connect or reconnect with their significant other, while singles will be looking for love in all the right places!”

“Monterey wineries rank among the world’s best and they are sure to be a highlight for any wine enthusiast during our Passport Weekend,” states Claude Hoover, President of MCVGA. “Yet Monterey is also renowned for being an ideal setting for romance.” We encourage our guests to experience all that Monterey has to offer. To stay at one of the many luxurious hotels, distinctive inns or quaint bed and breakfasts in the area is always a special treat. Dining at one or more of the many exclusive restaurants in the area is also a must. Depending on their interests, guests can also enjoy a spa treatment, shopping, golf, kayaking and much more. Finally, a visit here would not be complete without experiencing one of Monterey’s exquisite ocean views or breathtaking sunsets.

Tickets are available by contacting Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association at (831) 375- 9400 or online at www.montereywines.org ($35.00 before February 1, 2003 $40.00 thereafter). Designated driver tickets are also available for $15.00.
