Kavalan single malt (Taiwan) - TheEngineer - 06-04-2015

Big Nose, this thing smells sweet.

I can smell it from a couple of feet away!

The nose is agressive, bourbon style, topical, coconut, almonds, vanilla. As advertised there is mango on the palate. Net and not out of place in this spirit, spicy, hints of oak, coco husk, and walnut skin. This finish is quite long but the heat was quite noticeable,. more than its 40% might suggest. Lacks the smoothness of a good scotch but has every bit the punch. I'm not sure I'm a believer in this particular example from the perspective of price and quality. I think there are better bourbon values..imagine that!
