2012 G.D. Varja Riesling - TheEngineer - 11-19-2014

I know that this looks strange. A barolo producer making Italy in the piedmont?. Yup and it's pretty gosh darn good too!

Tasted this twice in a week with very consistent notes. I love the nose, sophiscated, light, tight, lithe, floral and fruit, really lovely and almost delicate. On the palate, it remains taunt and focused but with a lovely power (not density) and with that very italian high toned acidity that for me would confuse me if I did not know where this was from. The power and the acidity reminds me very much of a barolo in terms of structure. This is a very interesting wine. It is a riesling from a Barolo maker.
