Cooperstown Brewing Company - Kcwhippet - 06-23-2014

Went here after a visit to Brewery Ommegang where we learned of the Cooperstown Beverage Trail. Ommegang was nice, but everything they had is commercially available. Anyway, picked up a copy of Quench - the official magazine of the CBT. Since Cooperstown Brewing was close by, we decided to go there next. It's not a large place and has been around for 19 years but apparently struggled after they strayed from their original start up phase. It was designed by Allan Pugsley using the Peter Austin Brick Kettle Brewing Process, the same as was created at Ringwood Brewery in England. So, using that process and Ringwood Brewery yeast exclusively, they produce 4 beers - a pale ale, a session ale, a porter and an IPA. We liked the Old Slugger Pale Ale the best. It's a wonderfully malty English style pale ale, and we bought a growler to take home with us. It's a good thing they returned to the Pugsley/Ringwood formula because I read some reviews after they changed away and they weren't nice. We'll be visiting the rest of the Beverage Trail today and tomorrow morning when we head home.

Be sure to have lunch at the Fennimore Cooper House, sitting on the veranda in front of the lake, sipping on a cold Ommegang Hennipin.

We did. I had a chicken and bacon wrap w/ chipotle mayo and a Cooperstown Old Slugger. Judy had Cheddar and Ale soup w/ an Ommegang Abbey Ale (her new favorite brew). Oh, BTW, the growler of Old Slugger never made it past last evening. Consumed it with a slab of locally made Extra Sharp NY Cheddar and crackers. Have to go back on the way home later for some more.
