I bought a dusty, old bottle of estate wine at a tag sale, and would like to gather info on it, value, if any. It is a 1974, wire covered, " CLOS DE VOUGEOT ", still red-burgundy wine. Also says : produced and bottled by "domaines Jaboulet- Vercherre". Any help would be great, TIA.

I'm not very familier with burgundy's, but this is what Oz Clark comments on it-

Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France. Enclosed by Cistercian monks in the 14th century, and today a considerable tourist attraction, this large vineyard is now divided among 82 owners. As a result of the division, Clos de Vougeot has become one of the most unreliable Grand Cru Burgundies, but the better wine tends to come from the upper and middle parts. When it is good it is wonderfully fleshy, turning dark and exotic with 10 years' age or more.

I hope you did not pay too much for it.... because if it has not had proper storage over this much time, it will likely not be any good. The last 74' burgundy I had was spoiled due to poor storage prior to my getting it (it was a free-bee.)

Good luck!

Hope you bought it at the 99-cents store. WW
