1995 R Lopez Bosconia Gran Reserva - TheEngineer - 02-08-2013

Holy @#$!@#% !!

It's been a while since I've had an older Spanish wine that was not trying to rock my socks off with volume. This thing did it with pure elegance and complexity!

Good fruit still but given a nice posture with the balancing acidity, lovely structure, a hint of savouriness, elegant and medium plus plus finish, but good persistence. Lovely stuff. Prices are starting to go up on these things. I was also told that they cannot continue to offer their library program anymore (too many people were paying the high prices but getting perfectly cellared bottles direct from winery).

I've got a few older Bosconia and even their whites which will be interesting to open.

I will be trying to slowly enjoy these wines over the next decade. Very little movement so far, a bit more savory perhaps but still the same elegant wine I remember this to be. Lovely example of older riojas and looking for a good future.
