Opened up, 30 minutes decanted. Really lovely nose with the hint of cassis, truffle, forest floor and plum/raspberry fruit. The palate was quite the opposite. There was a hint of fruit left, but the wine is certainly on its downward slope. Acidity was there, but faded immensely after 1 hour and the fruit was all but gone in an hour. Kinda sad, but still pretty amazing that a 30+ year old wine from a not so spectacular vintage still had some fight in it. Drink now or forever hold your peace.

*Wow AA! A first on the wineboard methinks.... An inquiry on the Novice thread and the inquirer answering with a tasting note on the Bordeaux thread. Is this something I've missed or mis-understood? WW

Not sure what you were tasting, but the 80 Lalande was not that good a wine from a crap vintage. Have had it several times, and been disappointed every time, because I wanted it to be good, since I'm a huge fan of the winery. 1982, 1986 and 1990 were the best I've had.

KC it was just that, mediocre, and not really there... it wanted to be Pichon Lalande, but it wasn't. Just a friend who bought a bottle and brought it over...It did have a nice nose, just zero fruit, all earth.

WW, I surf on the outliers... That's how I roll. Just been sick for a long time and just recovered after 1.5 months of major sinus issues...Read your post on the moderators, I'm sorry I didn't call you personally. Another non-professional demerit. AA
