An offering from a friend on the note that I had tried and was dissappointed in the 88 Latour. He confirmed what WW noted and suggested we try the Margaux.

To my surprise, a much better wine than the Latour but still not a great wine. There is a better texture here, more silky, better integraed but still rather advanced in age for something that was so hard for most of its life apparently. Tobacco, earthiness, cherries adn dried cherries, deep flavours that boarder on the profound, the way it comes together but perhaps it was my anticipation of a first growth, but this could have come out of a bottle from a much lower classification. Both of us agreed that both the Latour and Margaux displayed the same vintage characteristics.

Trust me, this is not a typical week. I highly doubt that I'll get to try the 88 Mouton next..... Smile but if I do, I'll report it here Smile

This vintage was never in my gun-sight! Now hit the trigger a year later or 12 and I come to attention. WW
