Dunno about you folks, but I'm just kind of marking time with my acquistions these days. Consuming a bottle each evening means buying 2 1/2 cases each month just to meet consumption requirements....so to build cellar stock, would need to buy at least 3 cases each month. Have been shooting for purchase of a case per week, but falling short for no good reason. Maybe it's the general funk we're in these days, with markets in the toilet and the international situation gloomy. Not much enthusiasm for even a wine-buying binge. With storage capacity now of maybe 1500 bottles, I probably have not much more than 20% of that number actually on hand. Maybe I'm just in need of a serious attitude adjustment.... at the gym.

Sounds like the winter blahs, HW! When I feel like that I invite some friends over for a little dinner party to share some good food, good wine and good laughs. Sometimes I get out a silly game like OUTBURST which can be hilarious. With things the way they are in the world we need to spend some time just enjoying the company of people we care about! Always works for me!

Quit your whimpering LT -- take that hill!!
I'm buying like crazy so get your sorry arse busy. If you like SWs, snarf up the NZ SBs -- great value and taste.
Southern Rhone is a delight for red wine lovers. 98, 99, and 2000 are all good years, if selective in 99/00. 98 seemed to be good across the board.
2000 Bordeaux -- still good values with the bubble bursting a bit. I've been sucking up a few cases here and there.
2001 Germans -- don't miss out on these. The Spatlese wines seem like Auslese wines in intensity. Yowzah!
My cellar is almost full.......

Yeah well, we see evidence at the shop that hotwine is not alone in his funk. People are being battered by weather and talk of war, not to mention the Dow Jones...

Now that Ken Starr is on our team (see WS news), maybe you can soon order some of that $4.61 Boraso from Pops, or some of that great stuff from Foodie's. It's great having the wine delivered right to the door, especially in a bad, funky, winter like this one.

Good advice from Georgie, Buckster, WW....and four miles early this morning helped. What's weighing on me is the corporate governance issue....we can recover from war, from 9/11, from setbacks in the economy... but the crisis of confidence in corporate governance won't be healed quickly, and that could depress the markets for a long time to come. Kind of takes the kid here right out of the buying mood... except for maybe more cows, or another ranch.... Not really lookin' to fill the cellar right now, although that would probably be a good idea.

Hotwine, I am kinda in your boat right now, with a cellar 1/2 full and more monthly consumption than replacement purchases.
However, I'd suggest doing some experimenting with stuff you don't usually buy. I've been biding time by experimenting a bit with stuff I hadn't really thought too much about until now. I've been scouring the bargain Spanish wines from outside of the heavyweight regions of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat. Great stuff from Yecla, etc. right now.
Also have branched out with some Portugese table reds and Greek wines recently. Always trying to experiment with something new. Really taking a fancy to Xinomavro and St. George.
Also have been trying to support the local wineries a little bit here in GA. Tried local Touriga National, Cab Franc, Viognier, Malbec, Mourvedre, and Norton wines recently.
I'm sure, getting into the spring and warmer weather, that I'll start buying a bit more. I have a grand total of 4 SW in my cellar, presently. That will have to change. Also, am out of rose wines for picnics and impromptu porch gatherings. Finally, my wife can never be satisfied with the amount of Pinot Noir on hand, so I'm sure she'll be sending me out to stock up on that soon -- it's her summer red of choice.
