- winoweenie - 12-22-2004

- Glass_A_Day - 12-22-2004

THe strange part is I could only name seven of us. Where are the rest?? :0

- Thomas - 12-22-2004

Good point glass; I have noticed lately the board has been light on member postings. Methinks we need to come up with an idea to spark the place for more interest.

Why don't we troll all the other wine bbs and direct them toward this site...

Some of us would love to post more often but don't own a computer!

Other than that, I guess there's a ton of users who just come on to ask a question or two, then forget about the board (until they have another question).

Maybe you guys could start with being less aggressive and extend newcomers a reasonable dialogue.

- Thomas - 12-22-2004

If reasonable dialogue means one-way conversation, count me out.

Pablo this site has always been the least controversial of any on the web. It was founded by the late, great Jerry Mead, a prolific wine writer and owner of one of the best palates in the business. The one thing that was never condoned, and I still adhere to this, is that no wine snob is ever allowed to go un redressed. You certainly have the right to your opinion but you have an agenda that is so far off base that you've needed repremanding. I can assure you that there are members of this board that have wine knowledge that rivals any-one in America. We don't need quotes from anyone telling us about a vineyard. Please understand that we Know our business, have had lots of experience with the bad producers and glossing bad wine off on us does bring out the barbs. You need to back off and try understanding as I posted before, you don't have enough fire-power or general wine experience to sway the members of this board. We love to have discussions but not misinformation from advocates that are pushing a bad product. WW

pablo- I don't find anything about your dialogue or comments reasonable.

You may want to reread your posts. Answering with quotes is one thing, but you made personal jabs towards people you know nothing about. And when I asked you questions, related to the subject- you skirted the questions and came up with other jabs. FYI- I asked you those questions to find out the style of wine that you liked. Since Coturri is such a favorite of yours and I personally have never tried it, had you actually answered my questions- you would have given me an opportunity to relate other wineries to Coturri.

I question your motives for joining this board.

Irisman's comments were respectable. He may have disagreed, but did so with dignity. Maybe he could teach you a thing or two, since you both have Coturri in common.

Who's Pablo? Wha? Guess I need to read more posts. I have always considered this a "safe" place to say what you want about wine, the industry, food...

- Thomas - 12-23-2004

"safe?" Kat, you make it sound like a home for wayward winers

- Glass_A_Day - 12-23-2004

"Safe" like a designated driver.

We hit the majic number this AM. Jerry would be proud. WW

Wish I was here then.

I've been on a lot of other forums, some explode, others whittle away. Some of the one's that succeed do so because of the popularity of the product that they are for (i.e. ipod), but other are due to hard work. I can think of one that exploded out of nowhere and became rather large in a short period of time, that being www.audiworld.com, which grew out of a personal page site about a person's car.

Perhaps it would be a worthwhile to "benchmark"what other forums do to succeed. I know that for example, Audiworld stuck "business cards" on audi's all over the country wherever volunteers could be found. Perhaps there are other things we could do for the site. Perhaps station people outside of major wine events or festivals. You guys have a great URL, it sticks in people's mind. What a great advantage to start with.

- chittychattykathy - 12-24-2004

I'd be willing to hand out cards at events and when I travel. Might be something fun to design too!

You know what? What attracted me to this board was the small intimate community. I found the WS and RP forums much earlier and never felt confident enough to post. Here I was at ease. Now I post on those sites too, but only because of the confidence I gained in learning here.
