Against all my protestations I caved in and agreed to go back to Dalton, Ga. to do some product development. I'll be leaving Tuesday Morn. Flying into Nashville on Southwest and a kind friend is picking me up. For any unindoctrinated or uninformed, Dalton Ga is the " Carpet Capitol of the World " and a pimple on the acne desert of gastronomic and wine availability. To make this journy I'm deserting my sabattical a week early and carrying a case of 94s' to get me thru the 3 nites and 2 days I'll be there. Light a candle for the weener. Tankie in advance! WW

This coming from the guy who stated firmly that he would never be found east of the Mississippi again. So much for all, always, never, et al.

- hotwine - 06-15-2002

There may not be much wine there, WW, but there's plenty of 'shine and good Q. Y'all hurry back, now, ya heah?

- zenda2 - 06-16-2002

Good plan, WW. Better to BYOB when in 'White Dog' country.

Ouch! This one hits a little close to home, as I'm a native Atlantan now in NYC. But 'tis true, the best gastronomic offerings around Dalton is probably the local Chick-Fil-A!

Wondering which 94 WW will pair with that--

Atlanta and Dalton in the same breath is like comparing gooseliver and Lyons' Pate. They've added ( I'm assured ) a couple of decent jernts in town, but I'm sure I'll have to muscle them to let me bring my wines. Will use my #1 pitch. Later Fellerz. WW

Its only ten minutes from Chattanooga, and there's plenty of good jernts there.

- winoweenie - 06-16-2002

Close IK, but if you can do 60 miles in ten minutes, your jet be faster than mine. Plus Chattanoga is no gastromonic destination. I lived in Dalton for 5 years. WW

Hey Verne, I'm thinking about changing jobs...I'll be your goon in Dalton and together we'll muscle our way around all the fancy spots. BTW, what's the pay?

Drew

Heck-Fires, fer that job I can afford 50 an hour as it'll only take 30 minutes to cover 'em all. WW

Find the gold in it. I used to have to travel to a denim plant in Erwin, North Carolina. My tacked-on travel days led me to great meals in Durham and Chapel Hill.

There's said to be at least one great wine shop in Chattanooga, and there are several really dandy restaurants. If you are flying into Atlanta, Tower Liquors is right off the Interstate heading north.

Ah, I just noticed that you are flying into Nashville. You'll have no trouble obtaining supplies for your Dalton sojourn. The city paper even carries a good wine column.

- winoweenie - 06-18-2002

Just checking in before leaving for the airport. As stated in the original post, I'm fetching a 12-pack of 94s' with me. And believe me, as far as never, ever, won't and 'kaint, I meant cross the ole' Mississippi for pleasure. Business is another matter. You fellers play nice and no biting in the clinches. TaTa! WW
