How do such wines get their names. Like merot, shiraz and cabernet s. Do they age longer, what is the process.

Kmackey, welcome to the board. Wines are named very simply. Merlots are made from Merlot grapes, Cabernet is made from cabernet grapes, Pinot Noirs are made from Pinot Noir grapes.etc ad. infin. You need to go back on the Novice Thread and read the posts reccomending various books for people who want to REALLY learn about wine. Try that and then re-post. winoweenie

In addition to being named after grapes such as you listed and WW responded to, wine can be named after a region, e.g. Beaujolais, or have a proprietary name given by the maker, e.g. Long Flat Red.
