Jimmy Smiths' "Walk on the Wild Side" just came on. Man I love these great re-mastered sessions. Besides his Hammond he's accompanied by George Benson, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Art Blakey, Lee Morgaan and a few tracks with the big band of Oliver Nelson and Thad Jones/Lalo Schifrin. Bet'cha 'Kaint keep the tootsies still with this hummer on. WW

Was that the best he could do for back-up?

- winoweenie - 01-12-2004

Guess his career was on the down-snort ww

This morn put on the 1st of the 3 new CDs' of Jane Monheidt. This gorgeous critter has some solid pipes. Swings like Anita, range almost as big as Ellas', Phraseing as hip as Carmen. 18/20(for pretty).ww

Put on Jane Monheidts' 2nd CD yesserday and this morn. For all of you jazz fans, I NEVER thot in my lifetime I'd hear someone sing "Twisted" that I thot was better than Annie Ross' original version with the trio....Well the version by this EXTREMELY talented critter kicks patootie and takes no names. Wow!!!!WW

What's up, WW? You haven't mentioned Diana Krall in a long time. Are you a little bummed about her pending May 2 nuptials to Elvis?

- winoweenie - 01-15-2004

Hate to say it, but Jane can spot Diana the 7,8,9, and the break.WW

- sedhead - 01-15-2004

I'll have to check her out then.

- Kcwhippet - 01-15-2004

Litened to her "Never, Never Land" CD again this morn. A real talent that has nowhere to go but get better. WW

Haven't heard from enny of youse about this talented, gorguss critter. Listened to all 3 of her CDs' in succession twice; once on the ride to Vegas and once on the way back. Now I'm even surer of her brilliance and with maturity genius. A song I'd heard 100-200 times co-authered and sang by Annie Ross, "Twisted", and one of the toughest vocals ever weitten for jazz vocalists, is on her "NEver,Never Land " CD. Her enounciation is so precise, crisp, and her tonal quality so rite on I heard whole phrases I didn't realize were in this song.
BMG online is where I found all 3 albums and a site that, IMHO, has the best pricing I've ever seen on music. Anywhoos do yourself a favor and listen to this talent. WW

Just had a wake-up call on why the great musicians always mesh. Today seems like musicians, like atheletes, do their job and watch the star perform. Back in the ole' days when a group of great players got together the joy they felt in playing reflected in the music. Each played their patooties off at all times and inspired the whole group to greater heights. A prime example is Cannonball Adderleys' "Know What I Mean" CD. Backed by none other than the Great Bill Evans on piano, and the super rhythm section of the MJQ, Percy Heath on Bass and Connie Kay on Drums this superlative, swinging, killer CD shows all 4 cats reaching back for their reserve. Guess this should go in the Rants....WW

I keep forgetting to have the wife show me how to sample songs without getting sued on one of those napster like deals.
Didn't Joni Mitchell cover Twisted on one of her albums.
