Hi everybody. I just wanted to say hello. We are getting pretty-well snowed in here. Hibby and I are safe and snug in our recliners, afghans, and scented candles. I pity those who have to be outdoors. I'm thinking about making mulled wine or spiked eggnog for Christmas Eve. What kind of wine? What goes into it? Store-bought eggnog. What kind of booze?

Hi Georgie-grl. From the dark recesses of memory, German gluwein used a cheap Pinot Noir ... but can't remember what they called it. IK and Wonders, where are you? It was spiced with a gluwein packet (like a tea-bag) or spice stick, but don't know the exact composition - suspect cinnamon and clove. The wine was heated, then the spices were added and the brew was served hot in a mug.

For eggnog, we normally use a shot of bourbon in a mug, add 'nog, and sprinkle nutmeg on the 'nog's surface.

Can't add too much to what hotwine said. For mulled wine we use the cheapest red in the rack and mulling tea bags.

Not an eggnog person.
