Happy birthday! Have you visited Darioush Winery? It sounds like it would be an interesting visit for the architecture and grounds anyway.

Thanks, folks.

Mark, it'll be awhile before we open these wines. Maybe in about a year for the Darioush Shiraz, but certainly at least another 5 before we even think about approaching the Altamura.

WOW, Never been to Darioush, but I went on their web site this morning and it is quite an impressive place - bordering on ostentatious. Some people have way too much disposable income.

I figured it might be awhile. The Altamura '01s are singing right now but have a steady 10 or so years left in them.

Hattie and I drove by Darioush in March. I couldn't even bring myself to stop there. The place was lavish and gaudy all at the same time. Different strokes I guess.

Again, thanks for the good wishes, folks. We had a 90th B'Day party Saturday for my Dad at his country club. About 60 people in attendance. They had the usual restaurant cheap stuff for wines (KJ Chard, Mondavi Merlot) so I asked the bartender (who I knew since we get into the club on occasion - my Dad's one of the founding members) if there was anything else in the back worth drinking. He brought back a Seven Deadly Zins and a Barrel 27 Paso Robles Syrah. Both are in the $15 retail range, so I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. The Zin was nice, but the Barrel 27 was delicious - really black with a real full body and lots of fruit. Give it a try if you can find it.
